Track & Field Blazing the Indoor Meets

Our winter Track & Field team has sprinted to an awesome start! After the stellar Lady Lions debut at the Real Deal Classic where they were ranked 6th in the nation for their 4x200m race, they continue to dominate the indoor track. Our 4x200m relay team comprised of Janoah Syers, Kendal Drewery, Nile Brown, and Kristian McKenzie has consistently remained in the top 5 in the District of Columbia, and the top 50 in the nation! The fabulous four attained a personal best over the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday with a time of 1:46:10 at the MileStat Virginia Showcase.

Their talents reach past the finish line. Brown, Seyers, and Drewery participate in the Long Jump where they have brought home multiple medals for the team. During the Hispanic Games, Nile Brown secured a bronze medal while reaching a personal record by jumping 17'6". The new coach, Rafiu Bakare, has really transformed the team by giving more attention to each athlete. It is evident that he is pushing the Lady Lions Indoor Track & Field program into success!

“I feel like he prepares us more this year,” explains senior Kristian McKenzie, “I feel like I could go on to get a scholarship.”
