The theme of this year’s Thanksgiving Food Drive was powerful and steeped in Catholic social teaching: BE THE FACE OF GOD.
“We wanted students to really think about the people they are helping,” said Assistant Campus Minister Julie DeMareo. “Most of them didn’t have direct interaction with the recipients of the Thanksgiving boxes, so we chose a theme that would inspire them to see God in themselves and those they serve.”
Inspiration was abundant. Thanks to talented 12th grader Lewis Guy and our wonderfully creative guidance counselor, Ms. Howard, the theme of this year’s food drive was displayed on the front doors of Archbishop Carroll for all to see. A collage of photographs of students and faculty make up the image of Jesus, and the message Be the Face of God is in large white letters. It is a perfect reminder of just how much love, hard work, and dedication went into collecting, sorting, weighing and assembling hundreds of boxes of food.
Lewis, who spent over two weeks working on the artwork says, “To me, the theme embodies the spirit of Carroll and it’s what the food drive is all about.”
