Cardinal Wuerl established the 75th Anniversary Medal as a means of celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Archdiocese and to honor those who have provided extraordinarily meaningful service to an Archdiocesan institution.
Archbishop Carroll High School President and CEO Beth Blaufuss nominated Hendon for the award because he has served and strengthened Archbishop Carroll with unflagging loyalty. Blaufuss remarked, “He is a model of alumni support. Shawn has served on the Board of Directors for many years, including as Chair. He has lent crucial financial advice and strong advocacy to the school's administration. And beyond that, he promotes Carroll wherever he goes, and shares his time with current students.”
In addition to Hendon’s family, Carroll's Board of Directors, staff and several students attended the ceremony to congratulate and thank him for his 25 years of service to the school.
Hendon has tremendous pride in his alma mater and feels honored to give back to Carroll. When reflecting on his experience he said, “Carroll has done so much for me, not only the great education I received, but the lifelong friendships with classmates, teachers and coaches. I remain involved to help provide students the same opportunity for a well-rounded, Catholic education that I received.”
After graduating from Archbishop Carroll, Hendon went on to obtain a Bachelor's degree from Georgetown University and an MBA from George Washington University. He is the founder of Harewood Partners LLC, an investment advisory firm in Maryland.
