Spring Benefit 2015: A Special Evening in Support of Archbishop Carroll

During this year’s event, Tom Burnford, Secretary for Education at the Archdiocese of Washington, made a surprise announcement on behalf of Cardinal Wuerl – pledging a $250,000 gift to Archbishop Carroll from the Archdiocese.

Tim Maloney ’74, who served as the Master of Ceremonies, welcomed Steve Hocker '71, ReNika Moore '95, and Boyd Rutherford '75 into Carroll's Hall of Honor. The Hall of Honor induction ceremony, held every year during the Spring Benefit, recognizes alumni and friends who have brought honor to Carroll, those who create a legacy for our administrators and teachers, and those who partner in our mission to develop future leaders. The evening also featured the presentation of the Patrick Cardinal O'Boyle Medal to Rev. Roy Campbell '65 and the Griffin Awards to outstanding faculty members Lisa Ring (Director of Finance) and Joshua Ridenour (Physics Teacher).

Alumni spanning six decades attended Spring Benefit this year, each with a unique perspective on Carroll and the significance of the celebration.

Aaron Jackson ’95, who traveled from New Orleans to attend, shared, “I wanted to be here in support of ReNika. We were close in high school, so I really wanted to be here to congratulate her.”

The Spring Benefit was a new experience for Tom Burke ’60, who attended for the first time this year. “I’ve come to other events at Carroll, but this is my first Spring Benefit. I want to get more involved with the school, and now that [my wife and I] are empty nesters, we’ve got time to go to events like this.”

The Spring Benefit was a wonderful evening filled with all of the things that make Carroll extraordinary – a place where alumni gather in support of their classmates, where faculty and administrators celebrate their peers, and where supporters are welcomed into a community that is rich with history and poised to continue building upon its legacy well into the future.
