Bishop George V. Murry

Bishop Murry died Friday, June 5 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York after a years-long battle with leukemia.  A private funeral Mass is set for June 12 at 1 PM.  The Mass will be live-streamed on the Catholic Television Network through doy.org (Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, OH).

He served as Carroll’s first president from 1989-1994, guiding the school’s successful transition to coeducation in 1989-90.  He has long been recognized as a leading voice in the Catholic Church on the topic of race and served as Chairman of the Committee Against Racism for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. He has served as Bishop of Youngstown (OH) for the past 13 years.
