Distance Learning Guidelines

ACHS Distance Learning Guidelines

Effective Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th Archbishop Carroll will deliver instruction via the distance learning model outlined below.  We will continue to monitor the situation and keep the entire community informed of any changes or updates to our schedule.

This period is not a vacation, but rather an online continuation of their regular schoolwork. All teachers are prepared to provide instruction virtually.  Students should check their Google Classroom courses/ACHS Email for specific instructions from each teacher and check their Archbishop Carroll email and MyBackPack frequently.

While interaction will not be in person, classes will take place, attendance will be taken, assignments will be given, assessments will be administered, and grades will be posted. Distance Learning and virtual classes will take place primarily through Google Apps for Education - Google Classroom, Google Hangouts, ACHS Gmail.  Grades and Assignments will continue to be posted on MyBackPack. Parents can continue to view student grades and progress through the parent portal. We will follow the adjusted schedule below which will allow for 60 minute classes and daily teacher office hours. During class times, students will login to Google Classroom to engage in online discussions, complete and submit work.  Teachers will report attendance in MyBackPack at the beginning of each class.

Class time should be utilized so that students are working (independently or collaboratively) and the teacher is available for assistance and feedback. Students should plan to remain online until the teacher dismisses them and will be accountable for the work of each session. Parents should contact [email protected]  should their child be unable to attend classes. There will not be a substitute assigned if a teacher is unable to attend class, but the teacher will communicate expectations through an email.

We will continue to follow our alternating A and B Day schedule to minimize confusion and maintain the continuity of instruction.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Archbishop Carroll High School takes academic integrity very seriously. During this time of distance learning, our policy for academic dishonesty remains the same. Using someone else’s words or ideas, whether from a book, website, or a peer, without citing the source or receiving permission, is plagiarism. Any suspected incident of academic dishonesty will be investigated. If proven true, all students involved will receive 0% on the assignment.

However, we have received messages from colleges across the country that are recommending that prospective and admitted students/families not visit due to COVID-19. If you are scheduled or planning to visit a college this spring, please visit that institution's undergraduate admissions website daily before embarking on the visit. Many institutions have moved to online instructional platforms and in some cases are unable to offer information sessions or provide tours to visitors.
