Alvin Clayton-Fernandes ’79 and Tim King will be inducted into Carroll's Hall of Honor during the 2016 Spring Benefit Reception on June 13 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' Roof Terrace Restaurant. Inscribed in the Hall of Honor are those alumni who have brought honor to their alma mater, those who created a legacy for Carroll administrators and teachers, and those who partnered in our mission to develop future leaders in God’s work and community betterment.

Mr. Wenzel Burton teaches environmental science, biology and chemistry at Carroll. An environmentalist at heart, he engages students in a variety of hands-on learning activities both inside and outside of the classroom. Recently we caught up with Mr. Burton, who described what he loves about his profession and explained what being a teacher has taught him.

Visitors to Archbishop Carroll may notice some new additions on campus. In March, 135 new trees were planted around school grounds, thanks to Casey Trees, an organization located in Brookland, whose mission is to increase the tree canopy in D.C.

A signing ceremony was held on March 21 to recognize the achievements of three student athletes — Laurence King ’16, Trevon Shorts ’16 and Eric Meeks ’16 — who signed National Letters of Intent to continue their football careers at the collegiate level.

Former Archbishop Carroll Coach Robert “Bob” Dwyer has been named the winner of the prestigious Morgan Wootten Award for Lifetime Achievement in Coaching High School Basketball by The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Dwyer, who died in 2007, will receive the award posthumously.

Thirty-nine students and seven faculty members recently returned from a four-day Kairos retreat held at Summit Lake Christian Camp in Emmitsburg, MD. Kairos retreats allow students to foster unique bonds among their peers as they spend time with one another outside of the classroom, in fellowship and prayer, and focused on the presence of God in their lives.

The nomination process for Carroll’s 2016 Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony is underway! This year, Athletic Hall of Fame nominations will focus on athletes, coaches, and teams from 1990-1994, as well as anyone we may have overlooked from 1955-1989. You can submit your nominations online. The deadline for submitting a nomination is Thursday, March 31, 2016. Help us spread the word!

Ms. Michelle Morrison teaches I.B. Latin 11 and 12, I.B. English 11 and I.B. English 12 at Archbishop Carroll. From the poetry of Sylvia Plath to Virgil’s “Aeneid”, she uses classic texts to help students look at language with an analytic eye. She recently took a moment out of her day to share her favorite part of her job and explain why learning Latin is like a game of logic.

In celebration of the life and impact of Robert Hoderny and his birthday (March 17), the Class of 1992 invites you to its 5th annual Hoderny Day of Service on Saturday, March 19 from 9am – 2pm. Service projects include painting classrooms and tree planting at Carroll, as well as making sandwiches for the non-profit organization Martha’s Table.
