Students and faculty gathered for a special treat in Carroll’s Gordon McMahon Theatre on Monday, January 8th. Usually this time period is reserved for school-wide mass, but on this particular day Carroll had the pleasure of being the closing engagement for the Kennedy Center’s National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) community tour titled, ‘NSO In Your Neighborhood.’ Four bassists from the NSO shared their love for music through performance and intermittent dialogue regarding their individual beginnings in music and how their passions developed. “It’s exciting for us,” tells Alex Jacobsen about the NSO In Your Neighborhood program, “It’s a chance to share an experience that doesn’t just walk in your house every day.” Bassist Charlie Nilles served as the host, introducing his colleagues and much of the music. The quartet played a variety of arrangements that included Bach, New Orleans’ composers, decade of the 1980’s favorites, and the modern hit All About That Bass (Meghan Trainor), which incited a crowd-wide snap-a-long.
