On Career Day, Alumni and Friends Pay It Forward

This year’s speakers included experts in a variety of fields ranging from business to engineering to the military to culinary arts. They each shared their professional experiences and explained what led to their career choice. Some Career Day speakers like Chris Bryant of Streetz Media Video Production engaged students with hands-on activities, allowing them to use his camera and audio equipment during the session. Throughout the day, students were attentive and asked great questions.

We are grateful to our alumni and friends for sharing their time and expertise, year after year. In doing so, they inspire and encourage students to explore a variety of careers, including some that they may not have been familiar with or considered. In addition, their valuable perspective reinforces the importance of college and career planning.

One presenter, Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, USA (Ret.), former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell explained why it is necessary to give back. “It is important for professionals and others who have established successful lives and positions in society to reach back and help others to do the same — by advice, by counsel, and so importantly, by example.”

In addition to our guest speakers, we are especially grateful to the following faculty and staff who helped make this year’s Career Day a success: Ms. Sonya Wilson, Ms. Stacy Rubens, Ms. Cherryace Fields, Ms. Elana Gilmore, Ms. Beth Blaufuss, Mr. Mark Savercool, Mr. Matt Adinolfi, Ms. Althea Bullock, Ms. Tiffani Scurlock, Ms. Katy Dunn and Mr. J.J. Gregg.
