ACHS Softball Highlights:

The ACHS Lady Lions first game was an exciting event, they prevailed winning 15-13 against a tuff Holy Cross team with a sophomore pitcher throwing flames to the plate. The girls came out a little shaky at first giving up 10 runs in the first 2 innings. The ladies made a few errors in the first inning that cost them 5 runs showing their inexperience by not converting outs on simple opportunities where the ball was hit to the infield but was not throw to the proper base to make the out. Junior pitcher Nia Huie was a little erratic early walking a number of Holy Cross batters and giving up some key hits in the first two innings, but she settled down and gave up just 3 runs over the final 4 innings throwing strikes and fielding her position very well. She made a number of clutch pitches when it counted as well as going 3 for 4 from the leadoff spot at the plate, scoring 3 runs. Her battery mate Catcher Sophomore Olivia Turner did a great job all game long in keeping her pitcher confident and holding the opposing team from running the bases at will. Olivia went 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBIs and stole home sliding, on a passed ball in the 4th inning to tie the game at 10 for the Lady Lions. The Lady Lions then held tight in the 5th inning giving up 1 run, the infield was errorless from the third inning on juniors: Diamond Stewart, Brina Colbert, Sara Lyons and Sophomore Marisa Savage turned in play after play to get out of trouble and left the Tartans of Holy Cross with multiple players left on base each inning. Shortstop Brina Colbert had the highlight of the game defensively. She went deep up the middle to rob the Tartans of a base hit by fielding a ball and flipping it to her middle infield mate Sara Lyons who tagged 2nd to get the second out of the 5th inning holding the opponents to one run on a ball that would have gone for a base hit and 2 RBIs had it made it to the outfield. Brina was just as steady at the plate going 3 for 5 from the number 2 spot, scoring 3 runs. 3rd Baseman Diamond Stewart held down the hot corner making every out on balls hit her way including a clutch 3rd out in the 5th inning, batting in the 3rd position she went 2 for 4 with 5 RBIs. 2nd baseman Sara Lyons played steady in the infield and went 2 for 4 at the plate and delivered a clutch play in hitting behind the runner to the HC second baseman who had no choice but to get the out at first base while the runner at 3rd scored for the Lady Lions pulling ACHS to within one run of the lead. The outfield was steady and kept all balls in front of them during the game; it was held down by juniors: Christiana Stovall, Akilah Davis, and freshman Aleeyah Colbert. Aleeyah reached base twice scoring on one of those tries. On Akilah’s final time at the plate in the last inning, she hit a sharp line drive to right field and advance to second on a bad throw to first by the right fielder attempting to throw her out. Sophomore Diamond Hunter replaced Akilah as the designated runner and showed her blazing speed by stealing 3rd and home on passed balls for the final insurance run.

The Tenth Women: reserves Dominique Finney, Danielle Hayden, Aamira Sudah, Rachael Parks, Erin Johnson, Bria Savoy, Tomi Tolliver, Jalyn Waston, and SemaJa Evans provided lots of encouragement and loud moral support, especially when we were behind by 10 runs, as they cheered their teammates on to victory.  It was a total team victory and every member of the team contributed despite the COOL temperature and lack of light in the last inning.

Go Lady Lions! Great job!

The Mighty Lions Football Team improved their record to 5 – 0 Saturday defeating O’Connell 27 - 10, to celebrate Homecoming 2010 at Carroll.

It was such another great day in history for the Carroll Lions for several reasons; celebrating the introduction to the Archbishop Carroll High School Hall Of Fame City Championship and Nationally Ranked Football Team of 1960 ! celebrating Homecoming with so many of The Mighty Lion Nation , and celebrating the win of the football team bringing their current record to 5-0 !   YES, WE ARE CARROLL  !!

The Lions started off a little flat after their big win against St. John’s last week and with all of the Homecoming activity distractions but responded well as good teams always do.

The Knights scored first with an 18 yard field goal after the Lion’s defense held strong deep in the Lions territory. Junior quarterback Jarid Brown started the scoring off with an explosive 43 yard run for the Lions first touchdown. Kicker Jerry Membreno kicked the extra point to move the score ahead 7-3. The Lions led until the last minute of the first half when the Knights intercepted the Lions for a 38 yard return to score a touchdown to pull ahead of the Lions to lead at halftime 10-7

The Mighty Lions exploded for 3 unanswered touchdowns!  The first to open the second half was a 2 yard run by quarterback Jarid Brown again. The extra point kick attempt failed. Senior running back Malik Jackson scored next on a 3 yard run for the next Lions touchdown. Kicker Jerry Membreno made the extra point. Malik Jackson explode with a 48 yard touchdown run to bring the capacity crowd to its feet and went crazy with cheers! Jerry Membreno again kicked the extra point to bring the score to 27-10 in the third quarter, never looking back.

The Lions defense was extremely strong again all day and the multiple offense showed its weapons with Malik Jackson leading the rushers with 12 carries for 158 yards. Jarid Brown rushed for 9 carries and 142 yards. Jonathan Haden rushed for 10 carries for 1336 yards. Duane Thompson rushed for 8 carries and 82 yards.    Sophomore Yannick Ngakoue led the defense with 4 sacks playing with so much passion, sideline to sideline! Senior Mike Landry made a beautiful textbook interception up over the receiver in the 4th quarter to stop the Knights.

It was another great day for the young Mighty Lions of Archbishop Carroll !

Freshman # 5 Jonathan Haden started the game with a run of 24 yards for the Lions first touchdown. The Mighty Lions defense has been tremendous this season and a big reason for the 3 – 0 start.  Only allowing 6 points scored in 3 games, this is the sign of a great and upcoming team on tract for a great season into the post season! The play of the game came from junior running back # 3 Duane Thompson racing 43 yards for the Lion score running the last 10 yards with just 1 shoe on. What a tremendous effort that these young Lions play with !! Duane is one of those great players that always doesn’t show up on the scoreboard , or in the stat book but gives his whole heart and soul to his team on every play !! He is a great inspiration to not just his teammates but his entire school!! Sophomore kicker Jerry Membreno kicked the extra point to bring the score to 36-0 to end the half.

Wide receiver Lamont Baldwin scored again by making a great extended catch in the end zone to start the 3rd quarter from quarterback Jarid Brown. Senior running back Malik Jackson again converted the 2 point play.
